WHY WE GIVE TO ST. MARY'S

A Letter from Dave and Nancy Page
Our giving to the church has been a process…from the childhood days of dropping a few coins in the offering plate to “give to God,” to becoming an adult and realizing there would be no church if the parishioners did not pledge their treasure.
Dave and I have been blessed by God with a wonderful family, rewarding careers, and healthy and happy retirement years. We are fortunate to be parishioners at St. Mary’s where we are part of a giving, sharing community of believers who love and care for each other. We consider it a privilege that we get to call this our church home and want to contribute our time, talent and treasure to make sure that St. Mary’s continues to be a refuge of hope and stability.
Meeting together in church is how we motivate and support each other, which the Bible tells us is the responsibility of every Christian. If we are to meet together, it requires a place, such as our beloved St. Mary’s Episcopal Church…”That pretty church on the River.” Our giving helps keep it in good, safe condition.
To fulfill our mission to do God’s work in our church and community, we need the leadership of our outstanding priest and administrative staff along with the vestry to handle the business of the church so that it runs efficiently. They need to be fairly compensated which requires a dependable budget. Our giving supports that budget and fulfills Biblical guidance to “Honor the Lord with your wealth.”
We pledge annually and give monthly, which enables the vestry to build and execute a working budget. Our treasure comes from God, and we give in gratitude for all the blessings He has bestowed on us. We are stewards of His bounty and love seeing first hand the evangelism, outreach, service, and joy that our pledge brings to ourself and others through a well run church. God’s love in action.
